Local time July 7, 2026, Counselor Yu Shiwei of the Commercial Section at the Chinese Embassy in Iraq, headed a delegation to inspect the 4×160MW expansion & reconstruction project of Al-Daura Thermal Power Plant in Iraq, jointly contracted by CBITEC and CWPC. The delegation checked construction progress on site and held discussions with the project management team.

During the inspection, Counselor Yu fully acknowledged the phased achievements the project team made despite severe challenges such as volatile security situation and harsh construction conditions. He noted that Iraq suffers a massive power shortage. Chinese enterprises based in Iraq shall adapt to the new local development context, honor all contractual commitments, boost the brand influence of "Made in China", and build high-quality projects that withstand the test of time. Meanwhile, all staff shall maintain bottom-line risk awareness, fully strengthen safety management, and demonstrate the social responsibility of Chinese enterprises.

 Amid sustained turbulence in the Middle East, the Al-Daura project faces numerous obstacles including supply chain disruptions and logistics blockages. Even so, construction staff from CBITEC and CWPC pressed forward fearlessly. Going forward, CBITEC and CWPC will thoroughly review and implement the requirements put forward by Counselor Yu. We will always put quality and safety first, and adopt targeted solutions: optimizing construction plans, deepening coordination with local partners, and pre-storing construction materials. With concrete actions, we will contribute China’s strength to Iraq’s power supply guarantee and livelihood improvement, and endeavor to create a landmark project exemplifying China-Iraq cooperation.
